My long time friend, Michael "Mikey" Schneider, who also lives here in Busan and owns the Sunset Lounge at Haeundae Beach, has contributed invaluably by helping secure sponsors so that what I hope will be a quality English publication for Busan lives on past the first issue--which will be available June 12th.
The first issue is 28 pages and will include some writing from local foreigners living in Korea, but due to a lack of space (read, money) is mostly being framed as a guide to Busan --tourist attractions, restaurants, bars and the like. I have all confidence that it will evolve into something more. A place where the many talented people who comprise the foreign community in Busan have a chance to display their talents as writers and artists.
The first issue will feature writing from Chris Tharp and Jen Sotham. All of the writing for the cheezy guide stuff and listings you can blame on me. The cover was shot by Thomas Halle and the inside "Photo Pheature" is from Kelly Conway. The other photos are mine, as well as some I bagged off Flickr and will hopefully not be sued for --not that we will have any money after print costs anyway.
Here is a shot of the cover:

This is my first time putting together such a publication so I welcome any advice you may have. I am also accepting submissions for the next issue --which will come out the first week of August. Drop me a line: busanhaps@gmail.com

Best of luck. I'd be happy to support however I can.
My advice: Have a sofa very near the computer.
John B.
maybe you could also have a section for day trips outside of busan that are worth seeing within an hour less of a drive. something of a new discovery location each month.
Thanks John... and that is a great idea Ryan.
more nudity.
the playboy franchise is up for sale at approx. $300 mil. who knows where this could take you...
hi ive lived in korea for the last five years and i would like to help you with everything i know, i have lovely pictures, let me know how i can send them to you. im also on facebook.
Great~ add our facebook group: "busan haps"
Now that Summer is coming up on us, it would be a great idea to have people write in with comments about caming grounds and places they have been camping. This would become a data base for those who want to do some camping , but don't know where to go. After all Korea isn't camping friendly.
All the best.
That sounds like a great idea and you sound like just the person to do the job~ contact me.

Be wary of input from Shelton Bumgarner. He's been an expat in many parts of Korea for a few years now, and his resume includes having started expat magazines similar to Busan Haps - all unsuccessful!! (ROK on!, Assa!) crashing and burning like his poor pancreas that he has abused unceasingly; and his mind that has seen many tabs of substances that he claims to abhor.
He has written in to other publications such as Daegu Pockets and currently works for the Korean Herald.
Ok, ok, ok... I understand where his written material maybe of use, but to know this creature personally is like getting copious amounts of battery acid under your skin which then aggressively aggravate the confusion centers of your brain.
It ain't worth it, baby!!
Uhm. Suggestion noted
Thanks for the plug Bobby. The link is funky though and isn't working properly...
Sure thing. I fixed it. And the link in the mag is good. Thanks for the heads up.
i am Shelton Bumgarner and I don't think I'm that bad to work with. Sheesh.
Actually, I can be kinda fun. I'm passionate about magazines, that should mean something to somebody.
Good luck with Busan Haps. I wish I was there to help you out. :-)
